3. REPORTS
(a) Treasurer's Report -- Fred Heath, AI3Z was absent.
Jim N3GOO reports that the club has a bank balance of $1200.06.
(b) Station Equipment and Operation Reports
i. Northrop Grumman Family Net, Weds 3pm – Chip W4PBG / Bob K3FQP
2 weeks ago had to use relays because of high noise level. Last week Woodland Hills ran the net rather than K3NEM due to Bob K3FQP’s car breakdown.
ii. Monthly Power Line Noise Report – Rol K3RA
Power line noise continues. Some noise has been less bad in Chip’s estimation (impulse noise; noise limiter works) but Rol reports that noise overall is still fairly bad. Rol talked to someone at NSA and they're willing to cooperate with BGE work. Public Service Commission set up a meeting for Rol to talk with BGE about our noise problems Sept 14.
iii. Antenna Issues
Beam seems to be doing well (it is pointing in the direction indicated).
iv. Repair of Yaesu
Gary had the Yaesu FT-920 home but didn’t repair it because he has been unable to replicate the intermittent problems.
(c) QSL Report – Nick K3NY
3 new countries were in the last batch of cards received from the bureau (we now have about 150 confirmed countries).
(d) FISTS Report - Nick K3NY
No news.
(e) Training Report -- Rol Anders, K3RA
General class will start the 22nd of September (not 15th) and will continue until approximately the 1st week in December.
The new Technician level question pool will become official in June 2010.
(f) VE Testing Report – Jim N3GOO
VEs received a letter from Laura Smith indicating that there is a scam in eastern TN with people giving ham exams and then "disappearing", so VECs have been asked to stop testing in that location until the issue is resolved.
(g) FAR Report
We still need a FAR Representative.
4. OLD BUSINESS
(a) New Logo for the Club
Motion passes to accept new K3NEM logo as amended (#2 design, with text below logo, amended to add little ball on top of the point).
(b) Rules and Regulations update
Only 26 votes were received at the August 2009 meeting (17 present, 9 proxy). The club has 52 members listed as being “active” for 2009 – current in dues/response – and a two-thirds vote is needed to approve the updated Rules & Regulations, which means 35 votes are needed. Motion passes to have secretary poll remaining members for a vote.
UPDATE: As of the posting of these minutes, 30 total members have voted; only 5 more votes are needed.
(c) Norm's radio gear
John Paul will contact Robin to schedule takedown of antennas sometime this month. Probably a 2 hr work party, midweek after work; Glen Burnie.
5. NEW BUSINESS
(a) NEM website missing a link to ARCNEM site. UPDATE: As of Sept 09 this has been changed and the NEM homepage links to k3nem.org.
(b) Impedance bridge - maybe a GR-1650a - someone wants to buy it from us to restore. Motion passes to sell for $50.
(c) Banner: motion passes that the club review a design at the January club meeting; design to be finalized by a committee by January. The club discussed the possibility that this “swag” committee could also propose designs for items like t-shirts or badges. Jim N3GOO, Ulis K3LU, and Laurie KB3ORF were appointed to be on the committee.
6. NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
NEM Shirts – order $7 polos via Chip.
Technical presentations - Suggest or volunteer by contacting John Paul!
Next regular meeting: Thursday 10 September 2009 at 6:00 p.m. local time.
Respectfully submitted, Laurie Knaack, KB3ORF
