14 May 2009
Monthly Meeting

Meeting was called to order at 6:03 p.m. by club Vice President Jim Dressler KB3GSA.

2. MINUTES
The minutes from the 09 April 2009 meeting were approved.

3. REPORTS
(a) Treasurer's Report -- Fred Heath, AI3Z
The club has a net worth of $1438 [edited to correct typo]
Our field day food debt from last year ($350) has been paid.

(b) Station Equipment and Operation Reports

i. Northrop Grumman Family Net, Weds 3pm -- Chip Weems, W4PBG
Chip reports that on the Wednesday net as usual we get out fine, but are still an “alligator” due to noise (small ears, large mouth - can’t hear everyone trying to contact us).

ii. Monthly Power Line Noise Report
Chip W4PBG reports that we are still experiencing S7 noise.
BGE was here 2 weeks ago to do work but when Rol and Jim checked the same noises were present before and after. We did get a letter from the Public Service Commission (essentially stating they have reiterated our complaint against BGE).

iii. Antenna Issues, if any; items for possible Antenna Work Party
Heru W3WVV is still working on a preamp to be put up - no work party will be scheduled yet as there are no pressing repair issues.

iv. Station Equipment Issues, if any
Problems with our Yaesu FT-920:
Gary W3DTN and Heru W3WVV had volunteered to look into repairing our 920; Gary was not present to give a report.

(c) Training Report -- Rol Anders, K3RA (not present)
The Technician class is behind schedule and the exam originally scheduled for May 19 was rescheduled to June 2.

4. OLD BUSINESS

(a) New Logo for the Club
Movement passed to have club board of directors (current elected officers plus past president & vice-president) narrow the design options to no more than 4 for club consideration.

(b) Hamfests
Further discussion about attending Berryville hamfest http://www.svarc.us/hamfest/ on Aug 2 will follow at June and July meetings.

(c) Rules and Regulations update
Jim N3GOO has drafted this update, which is available on the website at http://k3nem.org/node/56. Members should bring comments for discussion at the next meeting.

5. NEW BUSINESS

(a) Field Day
Field day is 2pm June 27 Saturday to 2pm June 28 Sunday with setup after 2pm June 26 Friday.
Location will be Gary Mauler’s property, 7553 Wigley Ave Jessup MD 20794.
Main stations to use K3NEM - 3A MDC and GOTA station to use W3GR – 3A MDC.
Updates to plans will continue to be posted on our club website at http://k3nem.org/node/60 .

Field day rules and information are available from ARRL at http://www.arrl.org/fieldday .

(b) Updating signs around club station
Chip W4PBG is working on updating the signage/pictures around the club station at the museum and welcomes input from members. Jim N3GOO suggested displaying special event certificates on the bulletin board.

6. NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Hallicrafters & Heathkits exhibit will close at 4 pm on June 11 and anyone who needs to collect items that were displayed can pick them up before or after the ARCNEM meeting, or during museum hours 10-2 on Saturday June 13. Contact Chip Weems W4PBG to make other arrangements.
